Default Some Advice for a Newbie?

Howdy,

Just thought about getting into this game again after not playing it since it first came out due to Guild Wars 2 being into development and I just need some advice on which secondary profession to take. I know I definitely want to play as a Warrior and during the games beta I was a Warrior/Monk which I hear is not quite up to snuff nowadays and has even incurred a certain stigma around it. I am quite the newbie when it comes to this game so keep that it mind when recommending any advice but I do hope to get into a decent guild eventually and PvP and also PvE so I can get both facets of the game.

The wiki has some good info on starting out. You can change secondary in all campaigns at some point, so choose what seems best. Warrior has so much these days that I usually do not have any secondary skills up at all. PvE title track skills yes.

My suggestion would be to start with Nightfall and complete the chapter. You will then have a full set of heroes. But if you choose another chapter to start out, know that the henchmen have been revised and improved and are now pretty darn good for the most part! A big change there for you.

If you last played during the beta of Prophecies, you will find a whole new game, really. Pockmark Flats is still out there, and can still be fun to tour in hard mode no matter what chapter you started in. If you finish a chapter you can do hard mode.

Keep us posted! Would be interesting to hear your impressions having not seen the game in so very long a time.

Thank you for the advice. Im still a little unsure about sticking with W/Mo because I fear it may affect my ability to get into a good guild while leveling up.

/mo is fine if you use it for res only

Ele gives you Utility Such as Conjure spells to increase your damage or Shock for a Easy Knock down in PvP

rit gives you death pact a good res skill

personally i recomend elememntalist because the damage buff from Conjure is Fun

Unless you are playing Prophecies, you will get ability to change secondary profession soon, therefore the starting decision is not so big deal...

work your way through pve first and then find a guild that can teach you to pvp, because it is a difficult beast to tame for newbies

Guilds that are willing to take on a new player will happily take on a warrior monk, too. It's not that the combination can't work - it can. However, it works as a warrior using smiting prayers to improve his damage output. The problem is that far too many new warriors try to heal - which they simply cannot do.

So, stay Wa/Mo, but don't use anything but smiting prayers and signets - and you'll do fine.

BTW, this:
Quote:
Take mending, healing breeze, Healing Signet and Frenzy... it's all you really need as a wammo.
is a J O K E . Using these skills is EXACTLY what should not be done - it's the stereotype of what the W R O N G thing to do as a Wa/Mo is. Specifically:
-Mending actually provides little healing considering the amount of energy that goes into it, plus, it can't do what healing is meant to do: heal for a lot when needed.
-Healing breeze: another less than efficient skill. Health comes slowly, where you'd be better served by an instant heal
-Healing signet+Frenzy: healing signet lowers your defenses, making you take more damage. Frenzy doubles damage you take. Any guesses what happens when you use both of these together ?

P.S. - leave the healing to the healers. They'll do the best job of it.

Visit the Campfire section Warrior subforum. This sticky has information on secondaries in post #6 http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/w...t10326347.html

Keep that thread bookmarked and go back to it when you are ready to learn more about being a warrior. A warrior can be a very basic hack and slash character, being used with little thought or planning. Or, your warrior can be a vital part of the team with builds determined by the foes in the area and the goals of the quest/mission.
